Dining: Restaurant variety versus destination-driven cuisine

Dining is one of the clearest differences between these two ships.

Explora Journeys does not follow the traditional cruise model of one main dining room supported by a handful of specialty restaurants. Instead, guests choose among distinct restaurant concepts throughout the voyage.

Returning venues aboard Explora III include Sakura for pan Asian cuisine, Med Yacht Club for Mediterranean dishes, Fil Rouge for French-inspired cooking, Marble & Co. Grill, and Emporium Marketplace, where chef-attended stations replace the usual buffet experience.

In-suite dining is also available, allowing guests to eat inside their suite or on their private terrace.

Anthology, Explora Journeys’ signature Italian fine dining restaurant, sits outside the standard inclusive offering. Explora III will also introduce new culinary concepts, including an intimate Chef’s Table experience and The Cellar for wine-focused tastings and events.

Silver Ray offers eight restaurants, but its most meaningful culinary distinction is the S.A.L.T. program, which stands for Sea and Land Taste.

At S.A.L.T. Kitchen, the menu changes with the region in which the ship is sailing. The experience might highlight Iberian flavors in Spain, regional Italian cooking in the Mediterranean, or Caribbean ingredients during a winter voyage.

Suites and service: Two different ways to feel at home on the ocean

Both ships offer all-suite accommodations with ocean views, but the experience surrounding those suites differs.

Explora III will have 463 Ocean Suites, Penthouses, and Residences. Its Ocean Terrace Suites include floor-to-ceiling windows and private terraces furnished for both lounging and dining.

The ship also expands the number of larger Penthouses and Residences available compared with Explora I and Explora II.

At the top of the range, the Owner’s Residence spans the aft of the ship and includes extensive indoor and outdoor living areas, a private whirlpool, a spa-style bathroom, and a steam room. The ship will also introduce Cove Residences for travelers seeking more space and separation between sleeping and living areas.

Explora Journeys’ service style is polished but intentionally relaxed. The goal is to create attentive hospitality without making the experience feel overly formal.

Silver Ray has 364 suites, all with ocean views and many with private verandas. The ship’s asymmetrical layout allows several higher suite categories to offer unusual wraparound views. The Otium Suite is the flagship accommodation, with more than 1,300 square feet of space and broad views across the sea and sky. Every suite aboard Silver Ray includes butler service. A butler can assist with requests such as unpacking, restaurant reservations, in-suite dining, beverage preferences, pressing arrangements, and other details throughout the voyage.
